Balancing Business and Baby
How you CAN have it all on YOUR terms, with joy, love and abundance, without compromising your business or career goals, or your baby's needs.
Join Pinky McKay, best-selling baby care author, lactation consultant, infant massage instructor and 'Mummy Mentor' on this ground-breaking tele-series as she interviews a 'Who's Who' of internationally successful entrepreneurs and professional women who are all mothers walking the talk of 'Family First' as their highest value.
This recorded series is for you if:
You are sick of treating your business or career like a hobby that fits around everyone else's needs but you feel confused and anxious how you can ever get ahead – without breaking down, blowing the family budget or bowing out altogether. You would love to share your career and business goals with your partner but right now, they just see you as taking time and attention away from them and the kids. And, as for spending money on study, training courses or business development - you daren't share what you are planning because you know that will only create more stress! You know you have a brilliant gift to share with the world and you feel a sense of responsibility to 'get it out there' but you aren't sure about the best (and easiest) way to do this so you CAN have it all with joy, love and abundance, without compromising your career and business goals or your baby's needs.'
It can be daunting to have to juggle and justify between family needs and your own drive for success (to yourself as well as others), especially when it seems that you are making all the sacrifices. It can be equally frustrating to explain to people who do offer support for your business or career goals but don't understand that your highest value is 'family first' and in practice, this means prioritising your family because if it doesn't work for them, it won't be sustainable for you.
If you have chosen to parent in a very 'hands on ' way – to breastfeed, to minimise separations from your child until YOU feel they are ready and to 'be there' with energy and presence as your children grow, it can be almost impossible to find support and role models who can show you how to combine this conscious style of parenting with career and business success.
That's why I have designed this recorded series.
I want you to know that having a meaningful career or business does NOT mean you have to compromise your baby's needs or your family relationships. You CAN design your working life around your family life (rather than the other way round), in a way that works for YOU! And this teleseminar series will show you how.
All Audio files are delivered via download in .mp3 format. All products are DIGITAL DOWNLOADS and you will have immediate access to view, listen or download. Please CONTACT US if have any questions or comments.
This exciting series features interviews with an international 'who's who' of heart centred business women, career achievers and entrepreneurs who can show YOU how to create a successful balance between babies and business or boardroom, because as well as being successful in their careers, these women are all nurturing, 'hands on' mothers who walk the talk of "Family First' as their highest value.
They will share their trials and triumphs, their challenges and 'cheats' (yes you can use a hospital breast pump when you are the director of obstetrics!); their strengths (mothers are amazing at multi-tasking!) and their absolutely practical strategies that you can implement too (how else would they cope without a superwoman cape and magic fairy dust?).
Learn how you can have the best of both worlds – baby and business – as you define what success is to you; what matters most; and how you can design a working life on your own terms, that will work for YOUR family.
And, just to inspire you totally – these women are no light weights in their working world! Some are millionaires in their own right (that means not being born with a silver spoon in their mouth or marrying a wealthy partner who funds their business); others have changed careers or started businesses when they had babies because the work they trained for wasn't compatible with newborn needs or 'being there' as their babies grew.
Although these women have been especially chosen because they are successful business and career women as well as being family focussed, they have travelled very different journeys. This means that there will be a range of role models to inspire and guide you. It also means that there will be no pressure as to what is the 'ideal' mother or definition of 'success' and no judgment about how any of us 'should' nurture or work or ,manage the combination of cradle and career. There is a wide spectrum of how families manage, why women need paid work, what support we can each enlist or afford and whether we feel better working at home with children around, in a separate environment with littlies being cared for by other loving arms, or whether baby and briefcase both sit next to your desk. Often there is no choice about how or whether we work outside the home, but we can make the best of whatever situation we have.
What you will learn from this recorded series:
On this recorded series, our inspiring guests will show you how you too can have it all – whatever 'it all' means to you. This may mean having 'it all' right now or it could mean 'sequencing' so that you have it all, although not all at once, but in stages as your family grows. Whichever style you choose, you will come away with the tools to make it happen – on your terms!

When Dianne finished her studies in special education, she worked for many years as a special education teacher in the early childhood intervention field, working with young children and their families. Session 6:
Business with babies on board
Two inspiring Aussie business mums will share their individual stories of creating and managing their own businesses to fit around nurturing babies and small children in a very 'hands on' style.
Katherine Beaumont, co-director of Dream Express International, a business training organisation supporting business owners and entrepreneurs, and Anita Lincolne Lomax, Director of Babes in Arms, will tell you first-hand how they juggle deadlines, manage meetings, hire staff (when it's time to hire and the best way to delegate who does what) , travel with babies, and also manage to deal with the messy bits of mothering – from sleep deprivation to baring boobs and baby bottoms on planes. They will share their 'sacrifices' and their shortcuts so you too will know – YOU CAN DO IT TOO!
Anita Lincolne-Lomax
When Director and now mother-of-three Anita Lincolne-Lomax was introduced to the award-winning ERGObaby Carrier in 2004 with her first baby, her passion for babywearing was born. The liberty to be 'hands-free' meant she could balance her daily needs (Anita was then working in her own practice as an architect) with those of her children. These practical benefits, along with the emotional and physical advantages of babywearing inspired Anita to become the Australian and New Zealand distributor for ERGObaby and a keen babywearing advocate. And so, Babes in Arms was 'born'.
The business has now extended its specialist range of ERGObaby Carriers to include other award-winning baby slings and carriers from around the world - the celebrity endorsed designer Peanut Shell pouch sling and the cool, water-friendly Breeze Baby mesh sling - all carefully selected for offering ergonomic support for both baby and parent and their suitability from birth to preschool. Complimenting the carriers and slings are two fashion accessory brands, BabyLegs leg and arm warmers and Baby Bella Maya's designer baby shoes and leggings.
Anita is a proactive advocate about the benefits of babywearing and supports many maternity hospitals and health professionals throughout Australia with well researched babywearing information. Anita aims to encourage mothers from all walks of life and of all parenting styles, to reclaim the joy and freedom offered by the ancient tradition of Babywearing.
Katherine Beaumont
After graduating as a Naturopath, Katherine Beaumont began her career in the corporate health sector and climbed all the way to the top being the youngest General Manager (at the time) of an Australian Vitamin company. After leaving the industry and having learnt a lot about how to do business and how not to do business, Katherine met her husband Dale and together they started their own company.
Dale and Katherine were initially involved with running life skill seminars for teenagers. After they were married in Hawaii came the book series "Secrets Exposed". Dale & Katherine published 11 books in 1 year! It was crazy! As the last book went to print their first son Finn was born. Business continued to grow and expand with so many people wanting access to what the books offered 'live', hence "Business Blueprint" was born, a seminar series designed for business owners to make their life easier, to step back and grow their business in the most cost effective way possible by having access to the latest business information form the experts themselves. And most importantly for business owners to have a life! Their second son Callan was born the day after one of these seminars!
By having their own business what Katherine realised is that it is important to integrate family with work in a fun chaotic way. "The boys are an integral part of everything we do, I believe it is important for them to see their parents work hard and play hard- it is about making the best of the blessings (and challenges) you are given".

Who are the experts and what do they share?
"Early Loving, Early Learning - Loving Ways to Make Your Baby Smarter" is a series of six interviews with a different expert interviewed on each recording. Each of these experts is also a mother who can empathise from her own experience in the trenches (or is that the nursery?), as well as sharing information from a professional and research perspective.
Recording #1 – Lauren Porter, Co- Director, Centre for Attachment
First relationships: Love, emotional intelligence and the foundations for life
It has become a cliche to talk about the importance of first relationships in a child's life. But what do they really mean? And how do you grow a relationship that has the capacity to truly nourish body and soul, both yours and your child's? Parents get conflicting advice from a myriad of experts, yet the heart of the matter is both simple and difficult... can you be truly present for your baby? To facilitate that, it is helpful to understand:
- What attachment is - and isn't
- The meaning of 'regulation' and the parent's role
- Attunement and the process of tuning in to self and other
- The implications for 'coal face' issues like sleep and feeding
Lauren Porter is the Co-Director of the Centre for Attachment www.centreforattachment.com
She obtained her Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University, USA in 1995 and has since been dedicated to working with families, children and adolescents in the field of mental health counselling and training. Her current professional focus is the merging of attachment theory with neuro-scientific data, with an eye toward the practical applications of everyday life. She has published in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. She is a member of the External Advisory Group for the NZ Government Taskforce on Child Maltreatment, a member of the Attachment Parenting International Research Group (API-RG) and an Infant Mental Health Association Aotearoa New Zealand (IMHAANZ) Executive Committee (Secretary). She is the mother of two children.
"As a Psychologist who has specialised in helping people to work through the faulty thinking caused by the ignorance surrounding child development, some well intentioned and unfortunately some that is not, I really appreciated what Lauren was talking about in terms of biofeedback. The neurobiology research that is coming to the forefront of today's information on child development is so empowering both in terms of clients and therapists who for years have been ignored over this issue in favour of the quick fix. The impact of early preverbal stress has huge implications for a child's emotional intelligence, reaching into adulthood. So I would like to thank you."

Recording #2 – Dr Sarah Buckley, GP (Family physician), author of 'Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering.' Giving your baby the best start in pregnancy and birth
On this call you will discover how you and your baby can get the best possible start in life, from preconception through to birth.
- How superbly designed your female body is for birth, and how this superb design can maximise safety, ease and pleasure for you and your baby, as well as giving ongoing and life-long health benefits for both of you.
- The benefits of a drug free birth for you and your baby
- How you can maximise your chances of a drug free birth
- How you can help yourself and your baby if you have experienced a difficult or traumatic birth
Dr Sarah J Buckley (www.sarahjbuckley.com) is a GP, author of the internationally-acclaimed book Gentle Birth. Gentle Mothering and currently full-time mother to her four children, all born at home. Sarah encourages us all to be well informed, to trust our hearts and instincts and to take our rightful place as the real experts in our bodies and our babies.
I was induced with Tahlia due to pre-eclampsia and it's just like Sarah said (and even mum who was there commented) the contractions were close together and oh so painful from the start, that I had to move to gas to pethidine to an epidural within hours. I am not cross nor disappointed in myself, just sad that the natural birth I wanted did not happen. But after all I have heard on Sarah's talk, I am determined as much as I can control, not to let this happen with the next one. I will grab a copy of her book. What a brilliant talk and wonderful woman -- I learnt just so much.

Recording #3 – Amy Spangler, MN, RN, IBCLC,
Parenting-What makes it easy? What makes it hard? What you can do to make it simple.
Every parent wants to be a good parent...to help their babies grow up healthy and smart. Parents know 'what to expect when they're expecting', but after their babies are born they need to know what to expect during the early days and weeks.
As well as discussing how infant feeding affects your baby's growth and development, Amy will share the answers to important questions about what to expect in the early days and weeks.
- How often should your baby eat? Poop? Pee?
- What is normal when it comes to crying, sleeping and growing?
- How you can respond to your baby in ways that will help him grow healthy and smart.
When you are armed with these facts, you will gain confidence in your ability to meet your baby's needs and you will be able to ignore inappropriate advice and enjoy your baby.

Recording #4 – Sally Goddard Blythe MSc.FRSA
The Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP Ltd).
Physical interaction and social engagement - essential ingredients for learning
Despite all the inventions and wonders of the modern technological age, human beings were designed to grow up in the physical world receiving sensory stimulation, movement opportunity and engagement with the primary source of love in the early years. Just as the processes of maturation and development are hard wired into the brain before birth, so environmental opportunity and experience are like the software which enables the hard drive not only to reveal its potential, but which more importantly in living creatures, also changes the architecture of the developing brain and nervous system. This dual relationship of nature and nurture is what makes us who we are.
Sally will reveal:
- What are some of the essential ingredients of "nurture" in the early years?
- Why is reflex development important for later learning?
- How do early movement and sensory experiences develop brain pathways for later formal learning such as reading and writing
Sally Blythe (www.sallygoddardblythe.co.uk) and (www.inpp.org.uk) is the author of several books and published papers on child development and neuro-developmental factors in specific learning difficulties including: Reflexes, Learning and Behavior, The Well Balanced Child and What Babies and Children REALLY Need. Her newest book, Attention, Balance and Coordination - the A,B,C of Learning Success was published by Wiley-Blackwell in April this year. Details of all books can be found at: http://www.inpp.org.uk/inpp_publications/books.php
She is the author of The INPP Test Battery and Developmental Exercise Programme for use in Schools - a programme of daily exercises designed to be used in schools with a whole class of children over one academic year - this programme has been the subject of published research[1] involving 810 children across schools in the UK. The aim of the programme has been to provide teachers with a method to help them identify physical readiness for learning and a programme of exercises designed to encourage physical readiness in children with problems.
INPP Chester is the international training centre for professionals wishing to access The INPP Method. INPP training is also available in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands. Information about training can be found at: www.inpp.org.uk/special_needs_training/index.php
Sally has lectured on the role of infant reflexes in development and later learning problems to many different groups throughout Europe and in different parts of the United States. She is a member of the International Alliance for Childhood and the "Open EYE" campaign - a pressure group dedicated to ensuring that children's developmental needs remain at the top of the agenda for government recommendations for early years education in England.
I don't have much time to prepare detailed feedback but for what it's worth, Sally absolutely blew me away! WoW, Wow, WoW!!!! I wish I was on the line live - I would have loved to hear more about how Sally has been able to use her knowledge to help her 2 children that she mentioned on the call as her reasons for pursuing the knowledge. Thanks again for putting on such a great suite of seminars.

Smile! Your Baby is Signing.
We all know the joy of a baby's first smile. Remember the excitement everyone feels? Your baby's first smile is a milestone and recognition of the adult/baby bond. We know we are doing something right. Our baby can show us they are happy. Our joy is a positive and natural response which is fundamental to human kind. A smile is often deliberate and serves to engage another to illicit some kind of response. It is an effective form of communication celebrated all over the world. The positive response the baby receives encourages the baby to repeat the act over and over to the delight of all. A smile shows parents that the baby wants to connect with its world and the people in it. The brain is switched on, eyes light up ready to receive. The baby has indicated he/she wants to learn, be loved, have his/her needs met. Interacting with another human is at the core of any culture and essential to positive relationships especially in a family. These are the principals of Baby Signing. Baby Signing extends the joy of a smile with more pre-verbal gestures. Jo will enthusiastically explore the real joys, great fun of learning and sharing Baby Signing.
Jo will discuss:
- How early can you start signing with your baby?
- When and where to introduce signing,
- How Baby Signing supports gentle parenting
- How Baby Signing promotes speech
- How Baby Signing develops neurological pathways
- How it can reduce screaming and tantrums in baby and parent!
